Join the Chorale for music that awakens the human spirit.  The "wonders of Heaven and Earth" will be reflected in a Mass for the Ages, a unique compilation of the elements of the Mass as written by classic to contemporary composers.  And, the Chorale will join forces with chamber orchestra, organ, and percussion to perform Dan Forrest's stunning narrative on pain and suffering tempered with the promise of joy and hope, a Requiem for the Living.

This concert also includes two pieces by Eriks Esenvalds - more stunning examples of this Latvian composer's choral skills.  His exquisite setting of Sara Teasdale's Only in Sleep will leave no listener unaffected.

Only in sleep I see their faces, children I played with when I was a child...

Only in sleep Time is forgotten:

What may have come to them, who can know?

The Chorale's distinctive Mass for the Ages, compiled by Founding Director Jeff Harris, represents the Baroque, Classical, Contemporary, Romantic, and Renaissance eras.  It offers an interesting combination of styles and colors of sound.  Audiences will hear the five major sections of the Mass, called the Ordinary, from a variety of larger works such as Ignacio de Jerusalem's Polychoral Mass in D, Franz Schubert's Mass in B flat, and Josef Rheinberger's Cantus Missae.  The juxtaposition of these pieces results in a whole that is both intriguing and satisfying.

Dan Forrest's Requiem for the Living is a powerful five-movement work that projects a wide range of meaningful expression, from a biting essay on the vanity and pain of mankind to a plea for mercy, and finally a celebration of eternal light.  Filled with grandeur and timeless beauty, it has been called "superb choral writing" and a "nourishing musical feast."  Don't miss the opportunity to hear the work predicted to "assume a place among the staples of grand choral literature."

Tickets are $18 for adults/$15 for seniors, students, and groups of 10 or more.
